Entry Plan

On February 17, 2011 the Board of Education approved my Entry Plan as Superintendent. In it, I identify three core values which will guide our work: high student achievement, access & equity, and accountability; I also outline key activities from now through July 2012 that will establish a solid foundation for student success.

The purpose of the Entry Plan is to establish a strong community presence quickly; learn critical information about the district and community; assess the district’s strengths and weaknesses; and create a network of critical contacts and resources that will support the district’s work of improving the achievement of all students.

For the first few weeks in the district, I have dedicated my time to learning about the district and how it operates by meeting with various individuals including the Board of Education, district administrators, and staff. I have taken tours of the community to familiarize myself with Bibb County.

Beginning the week of February 22, I began visiting schools to speak with faculty, staff, and most importantly, students. I will be going to every school in the district so I can hear and see for myself what our students, our teachers, and our community expect from their education, as well as what is needed to make improvements that are aligned with the needs of all students. During this time, I will be reviewing the leadership and organizational structure of the district to determine how it can be revised to best serve the needs of students.

In March, conversations with key external stakeholders will allow members of the community to share their views of the district, its needs, and articulate how they can support the changes that are needed.

This summer, the district and Board will begin the process of developing a district-wide Strategic Plan that will provide students an education to prepare them for the changing world of the 21st century, and during this planning process, I will be seeking the input of all stakeholders so we can ensure the plan addresses the needs of all children. Our sole focus must be on improving out children's lives by providing them a high-quality education."
