Visiting Schools

As part of my plan to learn about our schools and communities, I will be visiting every school in the district to meet with students, faculty, staff, administration, parents, and the community. I want to learn what they expect from their schools and the district, as well as what they believe is needed to make improvements that are aligned with the educational needs of all students.

Below are some pictures from those visits. If you would like to view the agendas from these visits, click here.

  4. Dr. Dallemand,
Now that the 2011-12 school year is over and you have had an opportunity to visit all of the schools, I pray that you will make significant changes that will have a great and lasting impact on student achievement. Our students and community need your leadership to take us to the highest level. I feel confident, from what I have seen and heard thus far, that you are the person that will help lead this District to greatness. I pray that as you embark on this journey you will be able to see the full picture and the stumbling blocks (some being people) that have hindered us from being the school district I know we can be. Bibb County has great talent and it is time for ALL of us to shine.
    Thanks,
    Concerned Parent and Citizen

  5. Dr. Dallemand,
This is a new year with the same problems before not enough change. I understand that you are new but you haven't seen the whole picture of the people that are employed by you and the community as well. Your statement is being for the kids but that is not happening so far as i know..The children control the school not the adults. They can say or do what they pleased and nothing is done about it. Its bad enough the some children don't have structure at home and then they come to school with the same attitude and we are told they are just children. They can curse you out or enough spit on you and nothing is done, but if you say something you are wrong. How are the children going to learn responsibility if you don't teach them the basic things in life. I am parent and i want my children to have a good education but not at the expense of their own liberties.

  6. To the parents concerned about discipline our schools: We are all working to improve the behavior of our students, both in and out of school. With more than 700 dropouts, more than 400 expulsions, and almost 8,000 suspensions last year, it is obvious that something must be done to improve discipline. Please join us September 19 and October 10, 2011, as we begin our Strategic Planning Process where student discipline will be addressed.

When children are not behaving in school, it keeps them and other children from learning. It is our intent to be proactive in this matter.

  7. Greeting Dr. Dallemand,
I am a parent first and then an employee of the system. I started out as a substitute, then a paraprofessional, and now a bus driver. I have seen first hand how out of control the students have became since I been in the system, 2005. Eventhough you think there is not a problem in the system it needs to be refocused, that's not true. There are a lot of problems in the system. First, you have student behavior-not just at school but on the bus as well and nothing is being done about it. Many drivers and monitors fear their lives because they never know when a student might get on the bus in a bad mood and get jumped on or their lives threaten. You see the drivers see it first hand before it ever get to the school and the employees feel helpless-out there by themself. Second, there is not enough support from the schools, departments and school system. No one is taking the time to find out the real problems in the system, with these children, and department heads. My question is How can you reach these children when you do not even know what is wrong? In order for you to reach a child you have to know some background information about them and their family. Many of these children comes from broken homes, abusive homes, been told they are nothing so many times until that is all they believe-this started at home. So how can you reach them? I will tell you, you have to take the bull by the horn and realize that their are problems and focus on correcting the problems from the source of the infection (meaning the home). Every thing that is going on comes from the home, streets, and community they live in because that is the only way they know how to live. Many of these children are raising themself. So Dr. Dallemand, how do you fix a broken child? In order for us to fix the problem, we all have to pull together, pray and know what we are doing is right and good; not just for the child but for everyone involved-the system. Teacher lose much instructional time discipline students than teaching causing students that wanting and willing to learn to fall by the waist-side. Also, I do not think year-round schooling is the answer. When you talk about year-round schooling, you are forgetting that summers are usually the only time many family get "family vaction time." When you cut into that time you will either see many children not in school for maybe a week or two because these families are going to take that time to spend with their children. The point I am trying to make is that if you want to fix a problem that originally start because there was not enough "family time" and completely take away that time, what other problems would be created?

    Very concern Parent and employee

  8. Thank you for sharing your concerns with me. Since arriving, I have been working diligently to learn what issues face our children on a daily basis and what resources we can bring to bear to help them overcome those obstacles.

And you are absolutely right. It will take every one of us pulling together in support of our children in order for them to be successful.
